These people didn't have access to holding a less inflationary fiat currency, but they now do, and there's apparently demand for it.
The way i see it now, i think i do understand your point. I.e. for people who live in Venezuela, Zimbabwe and other countries whose economy and currency suffers from hyperinflation, stablecoins backed by the usd is a life-saver for them. And for such people, protecting their funds from devaluation is their major cause. But over time it could arouse their interest in a decentralized, censorship resistant currency like BTC, one that will not only hedge their funds against inflation, but it is also volatile and can generate returns for them in the long run.

That's finding a block once every 227 years on average.
If more people would do the math on lotteries, they wouldn't play at all. Imagine: "if you play monthly, you'll win on average once every 10 million years". Lol
With "just" 7 million people across the world, or less than 0.1% of the population, having a Bitaxe running in their house, we would expect lottery miners to find block every day.
Have a look at the solo mining pool payouts: the transaction mined 0.06304371 BTC to
bc1q28kkr5hk4gnqe3evma6runjrd2pvqyp8fpwfzu. Google brings me to
pool.nerdminers.org (although I don't see that address on the site). It shows 2000+ users with a hashrate under 2 GH/s. I can't make sense out of this. But on-chain, the same address received similar mining payments 3 times this month, 2 times in September, 1 time in August and 3 times in July. That's 9 blocks in (almost) half a year, or one block every 20 days. That puts it at the equivalent of about 350,000 people running a lottery miner. In reality, I assume it's less people and some of them have much higher hashrates.

It’s not based on session length. Sessions can last hours, but the counter will only move when a page request is made. So a long session with no navigation won’t increase your “time online.”

I'm curious: isn't a moderator paid to be a moderator? If they aren't paid, there's so much money sitting in forum's cold storage that could be used to fund moderators that actually moderate.
Another thing to consider is that there hasn't been a shakeup in the moderation team in over a decade. About 5 years ago I started a thread pointing out how moderation was getting stale and the response was "what else do you want us to do? we handle all the reports." Well clearly there's a few other things the mods could be doing these days.
Reporting many posts is one of the worst possible uses of time when users rarely get banned.
If I was a mod I would work on coming up with a system to objectively categorize useless posts and then issue temp bans and sig bans to those who have 10+ reported posts deleted. I'd try to make it a waste of time and money for campaign managers who insist on hiring low-quality posters while simultaneously encouraging said posters to improve their post quality.
Simple measures like that would go a long way here, meanwhile we have a very shitty moderator team which consists of people who don't care at all about Bitcoin.

The reason the central banks don't like stablecoins, as I see it, is that it drives people into bitcoin. Sure, Tether becomes a fiat bagholder, but the amount of money they bring into treasuries is really miniscule, while the process of people getting used to private keys and wallets etc., can make the transition to holding bitcoin a lot easier, and that's absolutely against the central bankers' interest.
I have not thought about it in this way. Do you believe that people who have never used BTC and have only been exposed to stablecoins can transition to BTC easier because of their exposure to private keys and crypto wallets. I kinda believe it is the other way round, were people who use BTC and other crypto adopt stablecoins in some way or another, either as traders, for temporary use only or to 'protect' their coins from volatility.

Well, for me there is an essential difference between the central bank having all the information and control over the currency you use at the click of a button and there being private intermediaries. As of today if the government, or the central bank, wants to know what I do with my credit card, it has to obtain a court order. That is essentially different.
That in the end the base currency is the same fiat garbage, we agree on that.
In my country (Russia), banks are required to disclose all data on bank accounts and fund movements upon the first request of a tax inspector, without the need for a court or prosecutor's permission.
All transactions involving stablecoins can be tracked on the blockchain.
It seems to me that the days when banking secrecy was truly secret are long gone.

The irony of the Trust Wallet is that no sane person trusts it.
The world is full of insane and semi-sane people, and unfortunately, many of them opt for these kinds of multi-coin wallets because they don't know any better. The positions and attitudes we have on this forum are sadly not that of the majority.
If you want to self-custody shitcoins, then don't, because 99% of them are hyped scams where you're the exit liquidity, but we all know you're not interested in bitcoin only. In that case, if you must buy shitcoins, at least use something reputable like Trezor.
The opinion that you are late to bitcoin is something I have heard a few times. People say it has already gained so much value that it's now time to find a new bitcoin.
A bitcoin 2.0 that is just getting started. The problem is, they never find it and never will.

In reality, not taking action is even worse than failure. You don't even have the "I tried as hard as I could" argument. I'm also feeling that I can think of at least 10 users that would significantly improve forum's moderation if they were asked to.
It is very strange that for some reason the major staff players are not involved at all with the forum or any discussions regarding Bitcoin. For example, neither hilariousandco or Cyrus are not active at all. It is like they don't care about any of this at all. The same is with mprep. There may be other examples that I don't know?
As someone has said it already, preferably staff members would be involved in discussions everywhere instead of farming money(?) -- that way they would feel just how bad the discussions are and would save time actively pro-moderating. I wonder why they are so inactive (they don't post at all, I'm not talking about moderation)?

Ha. What was described there 9 years ago is exactly what is happening now, except on a much greater scale:
Due to the unacceptable level of spam and low-quality posts signature campaigns generate we have decided to offer some guidelines of what is and isn't acceptable and an explanation of the punishments for users who continually make low quality contributions and the campaigns that continue to pay them to do so. Signature campaigns should be a way to reward users for quality contributions and only those that do should be paid, but at the moment it has become a way for many campaign operators to lazily and cheaply advertise their business by paying greedy users to spam whatever unsubstantial rubbish they can be bothered putting the minimal amount of effort in to and this will no longer be tolerated.
It is stunning how much of a mirror this description is to our current situation. I don't want to say "nothing has changed" because I think what happened was we all got complacent again. But the reintroduction of regular sig and temp bans for continual production of low-quality content would be a good start in helping to correct things.

If cryptographers and engineers have reached a concensus about a security pattern, it's most likely a better one than the "ultra-secure setup" that we've just thought up.
"Complexity is the enemy of security." I must have lost count on the number of threads of people who lost access to their keys due to some dumb, over-complicated setup. Just stick with what your wallet software is suggesting them. Even back in 2019, writing down a seed phrase was a practice most of wallets were supporting and endorsing.
Write down the seed phrase. Do not store it anywhere electronically. Do not split it, or extend it with a passphrase and split the passphrase. Just write it down and secure it. Back it up in case you lose it.
So your backup strategy assumes that:
Your parents or relatives will never steal from you.
Your house will never be broken into, and your seed phrase will never be stolen.
Even if your house catches fire, firefighters who find the seed phrase (on a metal plate) will not open it and will return it to you.
And if any of the above happens, you are willing to accept the loss of your assets.
I strongly believe that seed phrases must be stored encrypted.
Not encrypting = not storing at all.

People don't care about the process, if they see the result is good enough like human made, they will choose the shortcut as long as they can save cost and time.
For now there are many foods are mass produced by machine, which they produce sausage, canned food, snacks etc. We can easily know what food is mass produced and what food doesn't. However, there have been few restaurant are using robot to cook for them, which mean if we eat in that restaurant, we're eat mass produced food, not cooked by human.
I understand your logic but I am not sure it is totally true. Yes, people choose shortcuts. Yes, cost and time matter. But I think you are describing what people do, if they have no other choice, and not what people want.
Mass-produced food won on grounds of cheapness and availability. Not because people liked anyway. If you give someone a choice between a factory sausage and one made by a local butcher at the same price most will choose the local. The shortcut wins when it's the only realistic option, but not because people love it.
And here comes the thing about robots restaurants. Right now it is new therefore people are curious. But what happens in the next five years when every cheap restaurant has robots and the food all tastes the same everywhere? I think there will be a feeling that something is missing. Not in their stomach, but in some other place. A sort of empty that is not easily put into words.
Yes, I've experienced the same feeling and I still do. I don't know if there's a system actually controlling our lives and consumption, but it certainly exists, whether by design or mere coincidence.
On one hand, the government controls our lives, and on the other hand, there's what we might call consumer culture, which has also come to control our lives. I mean the sheer volume of these trivial things we've become addicted to because of modern culture, even though we don't really need them.
The result is that money keeps circulating in the same vicious cycle. They take back what they give you one way or another, as the saying goes, "They give with one hand and take with the other!"

Whether this system is designed or simply evolved in this manner, the effect is the same to the ordinary people. You work, you earn, you spend and somehow at the end of the month there is nothing left. The cycle is closed and you start again.
What I keep thinking about is what you said about addiction to trivial things. I agree it exists. But I also wonder how much of it is really our choice and how much of it is just the environment we live in. When everything around you is structured in such a way that spending is easy and saving difficult, even a disciplined person has a struggle. The system does not have to control you directly. It just needs to make the path of least resistance lean to spending.
Consistency is definitely cheaper. By logic let me explain this, why do you think McDonalds is cheaper than a luxury restaurant? You think the only reason is because of the cut of the meat? Or the quality of the ingredients? I can tell you, if you give a Michelin star chef the same exact ingredients in a McDonalds kitchen, they will make something a lot more Avangarde and expensive, with literally same things.
However, the reason why it's so cheap at one place and others are expensive is the consistency, you make 1000 same burgers a day, instead of 4 very high quality one, and that is why you end up with cheaper result. Mass production makes things cheaper, shirts, drinks, meals, everything in your life, if it wasn't mass produced and soulless, then it would be more expensive.
If every burger or shirt was a one off art piece, 90% of people would be priced out completely.
But I think you're talking about how the system used to feel and not about how it currently feels to a lot of people.
The old deal was simple: agree to some "soullessness" and you get a lot less money. Today we're getting a different picture. A lot of products are still mass produced, still standardized, still built around cheap labor and repetition - but the price tag has climbed into "this hurts my budget" territory. So regular people are asking: if I'm still getting the industrial, why am I paying something closer to the artisan price.
On top of that, consistency doesn't necessarily mean "cheap" in practice. It simply means that the company can produce cheaply. Whether that becomes lower prices for you, or higher margins for them, that's a power and profit question, it's not just a production question.
What you're feeling is what I'm feeling as well. Everything's fake. Food, the Internet, the "Science", the media, the money, the values. What we are living is the rise of some sort of nihilism. Comfort has made everyone obedient. Very few people see purpose in their lives, I believe. Very few people believe in God, or find purpose in religion. There's no masculinity. Everything is designed to keep you exhausted enough to feel somewhat comfortable but not exhausted enough to rebel.
This is the result of fiat money. Fiat has completely corrupted the time preference of individuals. All the things I've mentioned have a direct connection with your desire to discount the present for the future. If people don't prioritize their future, the entire structure of civilization becomes sick.
At the time I wrote the post I was largely describing the surface: prices up, quality down, people secretly averting from things that seem mass produced and empty. You're projecting on the engine under the hood: If money is itself fake and melting away constantly, people stop planning ahead and start grabbing the comfort that they can right now.
That fits what I see. If your savings lose value every year then "long term" starts to look like a bad joke. If the system rewards short-term consumption and passive obedience, why invest in skills, community or family? It's easier to scroll, order food and accept a life that's "comfortable enough" not to snap.
Where I'm a little softer than you is on "everything is fake" part. I think that there are still real pockets of meaning: small groups, working honest people, sentiments to work in order to build something strong even inside this broken environment. You’re not wrong that a lot of traditional systems feel like they’re running on fumes. But I think what we’re seeing isn’t just a “fiat crisis” — it’s a trust crisis.
People don’t really trust governments, banks, food supply chains, retirement systems, or even tech platforms. When every institution looks fragile, any shock - economic, political, or technological - feels amplified.
Bitcoin crashing “honestly” is an interesting way to frame it, because at least with crypt, the volatility is upfront. But even that transparency doesn’t necessarily mean crypto (or Bitcoin specifically) is the answer. It just means the traditional structures we built over the last century aren’t aging well.
Maybe the uncomfortable reality is that neither fiat nor crypto is inherently stable - what’s unstable is the world they operate in. Inflation, housing, wages, supply chains… everything is reacting to the same underlying issue: systems that grew faster than our ability to maintain them. So yeah, fiat feels artificial, Bitcoin feels chaotic. But both are symptoms, not solutions.
The real question is what replaces trust in the long run - because that’s what everything ultimately hinges on.

Well, the first thing that I don't like is that I can't see how to search for an author and a certain keyword from the main page. All I can see is the Quick Search, but I presume that allows me to search using only one parameter (i.e., author username, topic number, post content). I search for "BlackHatCoiner" there, select the user, and I can see my latest posts.

What you're feeling is what I'm feeling as well. Everything's fake. Food, the Internet, the "Science", the media, the money, the values. What we are living is the rise of some sort of nihilism. Comfort has made everyone obedient. Very few people see purpose in their lives, I believe. Very few people believe in God, or find purpose in religion. There's no masculinity. Everything is designed to keep you exhausted enough to feel somewhat comfortable but not exhausted enough to rebel.
This is the result of fiat money. Fiat has completely corrupted the time preference of individuals. All the things I've mentioned have a direct connection with your desire to discount the present for the future. If people don't prioritize their future, the entire structure of civilization becomes sick.
Let me add that people are also fake. We now see people living different lives on the internet and real world. They pretend they are superhumans on the internet while they die in silence in their closet. Unfortunately, young people are now copying the lifestyle of the strangers they meet on the internet.
The purpose of most people now is survival and they feel okay when they get basic needs. The days when you dream to contribute positively to society are gone. Now you just want to survive.

TryNinja, I don't think I've ever mentioned it in public or privately to you but I visit your site pretty frequently and I appreciate you maintaining it for all this time.
I'd also like to say that I love the redesign! The data seems to be presented in a much clearer fashion--and the only thing I don't like has nothing to do with Ninjatastic but with my own increasingly limpid statistics (merit giving/receiving, post count over time, etc.). This forum has been like a second home to me for a long time now and it isn't like I'm some geriatric who doesn't understand crypto or has arthritis so bad that he can't use a keyboard. Guess I could clobber myself over the head all day with that, but the data doesn't lie and it'll *hopefully* motivate my ass to contribute more than I have recently.

I’ve had a few moments like that myself, this project is what’s keeping me here.
I'm going to be honest, I really loved the previous Ninjastic Space. I don't have much to complain about the new design, and it might be more efficient or contain more useful features. I'm sure it does. But I just had got used to the previous thing. It was so clean and simple. I did a search, and the title was also a link that opened to Bitcointalk. Now it's a little more complicated; that being said, it's an amazing work you've done there.
Please let me know what you like/dislike or what you're missing. One of the reasons for this new version is that the old one was hard to mantain, code new features, and even test/compile. Now I can just do more stuff, so anything you guys say matter and I can fix faster.
For the time being, I guess it makes sense that it's easy to open the post and user profile pages on bitcointalk (since it's some kind of search engine)... so I added the link to the post title and author username.

How does Liquisabi know the leftover amount of a coinjoin? If the minimum output decomposition is 5000 sats, and there's an output with value lower than that, then it is easy, but for Kruw's coordinator, leftover amount is often something around 20k sats. How does it detect that as leftover? Is it simply because the value of that output is obviously not a standard denomination?
I believe adding the coordinator's address for leftover collection is always the last "event" in the output registration phase before the signing phase begins.

Also, I think Satoshi wasn't keen on using the term "miner" to describe something other than a software program. When referring to people who mine BTC, he used the term "node."
Just some time ago this same argument arosed where bitcoin miners was confused with just ordinary node runners who do not fight to mine a block and I said yes if one said all nodes are miners then they are not totally wrong because it was absolutely what was stated in the
bitcoin whitepaper as Satoshi himself called them just nodes and nothing like miners .
I imagine electricity was cheaper then, but the immense power consumption of modern ASIC machines makes the cost a much bigger concern today..
Yes the electricity back then was by far more cheaper but I think electricity became a concern when we started having sophisticated equipment for mining like ASIC which consumes electricity. If the mining is still be possible with just CPU today I think even with the status of electricity tariff it won’t still be an issue because the consumption wouldn’t be anything expensive

While it's also moving a bit for the high ones, upon looking at the tx fee on mempool makes me wonder if this has ever happened before?
Sure, it happened before.
Back in the old days you could even send bitcoin with zero fees and get confirmation, but we didn't have so much commercial miners than.
I am not surprised to see fees going below 1 sat/vB, simply because activity on bitcoin blockchain is decreasing and coins are getting more into the hands of big corporations.
Anyway, I certainly won't complain about lower fees.
Yes, I remember that day when someone has also mentioned that here and definitely no complains if it goes lower.
It's generally good to have a congested mempool. At some point in the future, the main compensation for miners will be transaction fees, so it's good to start "allowing" the network to become as much congested as possible.
Sparrow supports as low as 0.1 sat/vb, and you'll probably have your transactions confirmed at around 0.2 sat/vb. It's a pretty good time to consolidate if you have many small inputs. More wallets will begin supporting this option soon.
We're waiting for the others to support that customize fee as low as those amounts/vB.
Right now on chain activity is not that much, but I still remember the time when the emergence of BRC tokens and inscription of tokens into Bitcoin blockchain caused the fee to spike, the fee was more than 30$ and at that time I spent $15+ on single transaction so op you are right the current tx fee is the slap to the faces of critics.
But they are not criticizing now, they will if the tx fee spiked again then what answer you have for them? The issue is real, unless we try to use the solutions for this like maybe Ln!
We're so disappointed during that time because of the spam that BRC20 tokens have caused. But we're glad that it seems dead already and there's no more attack and spam done to the network.
I expect them to have those articles spread everywhere if ever the fees will rise again.

I see that there are stronger Bitaxe Gamma Turbo GT devices that reach over 2 TH/s, and I'm really curious if they could be used for a dual purpose - mining and maybe heating smaller rooms?
A stronger device than Gamma 601 is the Nerdqaxe++, which generates 4.8 TH/s. It's essentially the same chip, but four times. You usually find it cheaper than buying four Gamma 601, though.
No, these devices do not generate any tangible heat. If you want some heat without buying a big miner, consider
Canaan Avalon Nano 3S. It'd be nice to have it close to your desk, maybe it warms your feet. It isn't noisy either, 36 dB is nothing. And it generates 6 TH/s. Quite good deal for $300.
Nano 3s are not strong, I read that people had problems with them, I guess this is the weakest out of all the miners built by Canaan in the past few years, I would still recommend BitAxe and NerdAxe over every other small solo miners, I would avoid Nano 3s and for anyone looking for something more stronger I would make a jump to Avalon Q instead.
I will choose solo mining over buying lottery ticket any time, coming from someone who runs electricity using solar panels and backup batteries, solo mining costs me nothing, free energy equals free lottery tickets every day, good luck to all solo miners on here, happy lottering.

How reliable is that metric? I remember it quickly climbed from 0 to 100 days, but I'm stuck at 300-ish for a very long time, I feel. I want to count the time that I spend in here every day, and I don't want to involve third party software.
Does anyone know how it even works? If I leave my computer running with Bitcointalk tab open, that obviously doesn't count. Does it count it based on session? Session works for a very long time, though. Or does it add a constant x seconds every time I load a page?
Have been wanting to ask something similar to this in this forum because I also found myself quite confuse on how the total time logged in works , for some days now is like mine is still displaying same numbers of days . Maybe is counting but just slow , but I think is base on the number on time you stay active in the forum may scrolling around and stuff .

Bitcoin fell 30% from 109k to about 85k just recently. That's normal. We've all seen worse. Interestingly, there are some all in on Bitcoin lost way more than 30%. Not because Bitcoin failed them, but because the way in which they held Bitcoin failed them.
You didn't even explain what ways are wrong according to you and how many people you consider under some. If you are trying to make this as yet another thread against leverage trading, then it is not unique at all. This has been discussed for a long time.
Look what happened to Strategy (the Saylor company). They borrowed billions in order to purchase Bitcoin. At one point, people were paying $2.50 to every $1 of Bitcoin the company actually owned, simply just because they believed in the story. That premium evaporated to basically nothing. BlackRock, Vanguard and Fidelity quietly sold up $5 billion worth of shares in Q3. S&P downgraded them to junk. There was one day in which 42.9 million shares were traded - massive volume, on a down day. That's what a handoff looks like. Big money out, small money picking up what they dropped.

They know what they are doing and they are rich, unlike you and me. You think that this shows that they have done something wrong, the reality is the exact opposite of that. This shows that they have excellent risk management, hedging practices and adaptability to changing market conditions.
Bitcoin didn't do a damn thing wrong. It's just sitting there, being Bitcoin. But the structures that people created around it (the leverage, the debt, the complicated products), those are what's breaking. You can really believe in Bitcoin with your whole heart and still get torn up if you're holding it through the wrong vehicle. The asset and the wrapper are NOT the same thing. A lot of people are about to find out the hard way.
This has nothing to do with Strategy. I have no idea why you mention people, then bring up a story about Strategy and then again mention generic advice that relates to people.
Buying shares of a company that stacks bitcoin is not HODLing. But people need to realize that the system isn't structured so that it's a simple fiat to bitcoin swap, for everyone. There's locked capital that is legislatively prohibited to be swapped for bitcoin in a self-custodial way. And in fact this capital is worth more than $30 trillion. Strategy is a proxy that can actually expose that capital to the bitcoin market, and so it provides a service to a real-world problem.
HODLing has nothing to do with the stock market, I have no idea what OP wants to say here. If some people like to buy Strategy stock, then they can do whatever they want.

Hi guys, I was trying to understand why it was necessary to bring up the idea of digital signatures. since we have the public key and private key that can actually prove that we own that particular address. When you go to a physical bank, one of the ways of proving that you are the owner of the money in the account is signing your signature. You dont give people the password to your account for them to be sure that you own the money inside.

A signed message proves that you're the owner of a public key, because the only way to sign a message of a public key is to own its private key. This is how coin ownership is retained without disclosing the private key. You simply sign a message that says what you want to spend etc.
Signing a message shouldn't be a trouble, but after reading the reddit post, I wouldn't feel as comfortable as I do with Bitcoin signed messages. I have no idea how Ethereum works, but as it turns out from the first reply, signing transaction hash can grant ETH ownership. Signing a simple "hi, this is <date>" would never harm you in Bitcoin, but I wouldn't cross my fingers it will neither harm in crazy-Etherland.

They will never just ask you to sign something because they don't know what your signature looks like and even if they did, its very easy to fake a signature. Any theft can practice for an hour or so and easily learn your signature.
What the OP is asking is a signed messages pretty much and if you know the public key of that particular individual you can verify if they actually said what they said. Its a smart way of verifying whether a particalaur person owns an BTC address without having to make them send a transaction.

What amuses me is that everywhere else I go, bitcoin meet-ups, twitter, reddit, YouTube, telegram, it's all oveewelming anti-core sentiments.
Because drama sells. Twitter, Reddit and YouTube are indeed full of butthurt Knotzis. I've never got useful information from Reddit in my life. It's all just like ironic or meaningless comments. Most places on the internet are like that now. Forums used to be a bit better, since they allowed for longer posts and, in turn, more sophisticated discussions.
In the meetups I've been in, they mock anyone who's "concerned" about spam.
Given no one has been able to give a concrete, technical definition of "spam" this is not surprising. Without something technical it is just someone's opinion what is considered spam and one person's spam is another's use case. I am not sure of the current core vs knots stats, but keeping bitcoin censorship resistant is critical for it's long term value.
