Later, Lerner also discovered that Patoshi apparently throttled his mining a lot - stopping for the first 5 minutes of many block intervals. All of this paints a very different picture of a "government op" who decided not to touch it. Patoshis behavior shows restraint - he could have out-mined everyone else easily and monopolized block finding, but he refrained and gave other early miners a chance.
So you are saying that if it were the CIA/NSA/Darpa, they would have mined all 21M Bitcoins and taken all of them and destroyed Bitcoin? That makes no sense. Indeed, mining what Satoshi mined is consistent with
any of the theories of Satoshi's identity. What he mined was about what you'd expect from an entity in that position.
Facts beat conspiracy theories on the internet.
I wish that were true.
Regardless, all we have right now is theories and various bits of evidence supporting those theories. Nobody has "facts" about Satoshi's identity (except the CIA
).
In fact, there have been cases throughout history where people have refused a monetary Nobel Prize. Even though it represents enormous wealth (a million dollars), and these people weren't rich. 🙋

Imagining its some guy who just didn't feel like making himself and his family and everybody he ever knew on earth some of the richest in the world, or imagining he wouldn't want to give this to a charity of his choice, is just... bonkers. This isn't a hippy trading a fancy car for a more mellow life here.
In my opinion, proof that Satoshi Nakamoto wasn't working for the government is the fact that the US government, like other governments, isn't particularly fond of Bitcoin. Yes, Donald Trump voiced his support for it in 2025. However, by 2026, we all realized he's much more fond of meme coins. And government officials are most fond of fiat currencies, especially central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). 🧖
Bitcoin became defacto legal in the USA shortly after it was introduced. It's now
legal as hell. The US House has passed legislation actually
preemptively banning CBDCs, so the "government hated Bitcoin" theory doesn't hold up.
And even if it did, the US government has hated all kinds of things that rogue groups within the US intelligence community has nevertheless done anyhow.
And for that to happen, Satoshi Nakamoto had to disappear. It was an absolutely necessary step.
Bitcoin would have done much better had he been around and was a public figure.
Way the hell better than Michael Saylor.
Also, Satoshi almost never posted between roughly 5 and 11am GMT, so either he was on US hours or he had the most disciplined insomnia in history.

Several years ago I compiled all of Satoshi's public activity timestamps from emails, forum posts, and code commits to generate the following chart. My conclusion is that Satoshi maintained a sleep schedule consistent with someone staying in the Pacific time zone.
Real hackers don't go to bed at 9PM.
That looks much more like eastern time (three hours later) to me. Midnight to 8am is perfect hacker sleeping hours.

I agree.
It proved you can run money with no bank, no office, and no customer support line, and it's been running for 17 years non-stop.
I remember when doing huge transactions with my money felt like I was begging money from the bank, I have to verify this and verify that, plus how they the stress, time and everything, it pisses me off all the time.
How bitcoin has made that not a problem form me again is something I'll forever appreciate..

For some reason I have also nursed what the legacy was too, and honestly one of the legacy was the price, for some good 17 years bitcoin has been able to proved free permissions to move your value freely no such as bailout, or some banks system maintenance….and this was something some person have never experienced before…
Well I think I might be a little bit worried about the second part which you made mention of this generation,which it looks like Bitcoin is just turning into another ETF ticker, and just you have said if people don’t hold there IOUs and don’t touch wallets or they never run a node then we all have missed the point because it now looks like we just rebranded the banks with extra steps….

Funny that Step 1 is "go read Binance Academy". This is like McDonald's telling you to learn nutrition from the Happy Meal box.
I also laughed when I saw it, this is more of persuading the newbies to go for their articles rather than what they seem to project as an advise, we have to be more careful with some of this public figures as they tend to use their reputation to attract users to a specific target the hard in mind using strategy like this.

"Knowing too much" is not a curse. The curse is being scared of not knowing enough, and using that as an excuse to avoid execution. Your brain, through a process that lasts for thousands of years, has been evolving into protecting you from rejection and failure, and will use anything in its disposal to "protect" you, even if there's realistically nothing that would kill you or destroy your life in some action.
You need to be very conscious when your mind does this and react.
Too much knowledge can never be a curse as it prepares you for the business and risks associated with it. It prepares you to make sensible decisions in investments and also how to deal with looses. Bear in mind that in business and investment there are more risks and uncertainty, without proper knowledge its difficult to mentally prepared for all that in advance. If you what to excel in any field of life then you have to take a practical steps regardless of all the hindrances in that path. If you keep on thinking, you will just waste your time and won't be able to excel.

Most of them discovered "financial freedom" around the same time they discovered crypto voters have wallets and donate. Remember that some of the loudest "pro-bitcoin" politicians ended up promoting memecoins that dumped on their own supporters.
Of course and I don't trust anyone. Did they vote against against KYC creep and capital gains tax? So why would they should be called pro-bitcoin?
They support KYC and capital gain tax which are important for government system and they receive salary from that, so they don't actually support Bitcoin or cryptocurrency market and user communities. They try to make fake support to buy votes which are helpful for their political career if they actually succeed with such attempts.
KYC is dangerous but likely we will have to live with a fact that KYC is here to stay.

I think you're mixing up greed with discipline. Saying no to a relative asking for money every week or not spending on things you don't need isn't greed, it's just managing what you have.
In my opinion, greed is when you want more at the expense of others. And yes, I'm sure most people will disagree with this definition, and just blame people who want to succeed in life as "greedy". Poverty is in the mind.
I believe we all know what greed is but for the purpose of clarity, I have to check my dictionary and this is what I found.
A selfish or excessive desire for more than is needed or deserved, especially of money, wealth, food, or other possessions.
Going by this definition, Op really mixed things up. There's difference between being selfish and being self disciplined. You don't need to be greedy to become wealthy. Self disciplined is what you actually need. In fact, being greedy can make you become poor if you're wealthy because you would want to take risk to get more richer. Not every risks are worth taking, you may lose everything in the end if you're not careful.
so far you are not hurting anyone or taking what doesn't belong to you. Then it's allowed in fact that is what trends around the world now.. No successful being right now wasn't greedy at some point. Be it via business.. Dangote, Otedola, Elon... Music.. Jay Z, Wizkid, Davido... Football Cristiano Messi Neymar... And the likes... For wealth to be achieved,, greed must be applied.. FACTUAL.

Greed mostly involved wanting what doesn't belong to you. Being greedy means not being contended too.
The names you mentioned are not greedy people, they are ambitious people with discipline. If you want to talk about greedy, I expect to see some criminal names on your list but there's none.

Personally, I perceive a difference in the psychological impact of using cards or online payments versus cash and BTC. Honestly, when making online payments, I don't feel like I'm losing anything I actually possess. I can't quite explain it, but I think it’s because online payments are made via smartphone apps; psychologically, it feels like I’m simply moving numbers around within my bank balance. With cash—and I agree with you here—I am physically handing over something I own to another person, and it feels like a genuine loss of an asset.
It’s even worse with BTC
. When I’m in a bind and need cash, cashing out my BTC balance makes me feel like I’m squandering a future investment. Sometimes, when I see the price of BTC rising, I find myself recalculating exactly how much BTC I’ve already converted into cash.

I think it is true for me. Paying in BTC feels like you directly take from your future profit, somehow. It surely feels worse for me. I know technically paying fiat or BTC are almost same, economically. But it definitely feels same, just psychological toll of it. For the original post, I don't think paying with cash or card feels different. I saw the MIT study but it is not the case for me. Well, honestly it has been ages since I paid something important with cash. Maybe like 10 years ago, even before maybe. These days I don't use cash at all, there is some cash in my wallet, same bills for months. Since corona, I think maybe once or twice have been not using card payment. So, I cannot feel the psychological aspect of difference between cash payment and card payment. But everyone knows it is your money and every logical person would feel the same I think.

The service is obviously aimed at those who do not understand the concept of
"not your keys, not your coins" or those who simply do not care that they use a hardware wallet from which it is possible to extract seed remotely. They believe that recovery only refers to voluntary consent to do so, and not that it is possible to extract every generated seed from every device. The fact that Ledger previously claimed it wasn't possible and then suddenly it became possible speaks for itself.
In today's time when AI is getting more advanced day by day, it is not impossible that someone will find a way to hack Ledger Recovery and make the coldcard case look ridiculous.

I believe in the long run, Bitcoin may be used for all online transactions, but I don't believe so for the next few years. It needs something on top of it since the base layer does only about 7 transactions per second. Lightning seems like the obvious solution, but in my experience the problem of liquidity and routing still makes it unpleasant for daily users and @BlackHatCoiner has a point there.
I see a general view gradually taking shape here that Bitcoin could serve as a base settlement layer, with different payment systems built on top of it. People have been talking about this idea for years, but I cannot find much practical evidence of it happening. Different people and different businesses prefer different base layers: some use Tron, some Solana, some Monero - and Bitcoin is far from being one of the leaders here.
What I do see, though, is the emergence and rapid development of payment protocols within the Bitcoin ecosystem itself, connected by Lightning as a common layer. I can make Lightning payments through the Valet wallet, the Blitz wallet, the Chimera wallet, or the CypherBox wallet. In the first case, the sats will leave my actual Lightning Network channel, while in the others they will come from different payment systems: Spark, Arkade, and Bark.
So Lightning may have a real chance of becoming that common underlying layer that connects different standards for storing and using bitcoin.

Also, as Lucius said, I'd stay 100 miles away from Ledger wallet. It's probably the last wallet I'd choose after Coldcard. Ever since I joined Bitcoin, I consider it the most suspicious one.
Just imagine that after so many scandals coming from that company, probably hundreds of thousands of people are still using their devices. I don't want to use a stronger word, but to me that's complete madness.
I had no doubts at the beginning and I bought their devices, but I must admit that they deeply disappointed me, not so much perhaps with what happened, but with their reaction after everything.

And the number of people 'exposed' to Bitcoin is getting larger in theory but I believe reality is very different and will be for a long time. There is growth but most of them come back when times are good and leave when things go 'bad' on the Market chart, leaving us with few that actually stay.
Anyway. I actually expect the media outlets will continue to ridicule Bitcoin even a decade from now, that is one thing that will probably never end, but it does not matter too much to any of us does it.
If Bitcoin death is a possibility, it would be bigger in earliest years after Bitcoin genesis block in January 2009, while now in 2026 and years onward, Bitcoin has no longer been as vulnerable as years ago.
There will be never global consensus on Bitcoin as it's a strong and good blockchain as well as investment asset, and there will be always people and agencies that attack Bitcoin, call Bitcoin will be dead but they won't be able to stop Bitcoin growth.
With my years in Bitcoin market as well as my time in the forum, I have experienced enough, and have been enlightened enough about Bitcoin so that I have no longer been weak in my belief in Bitcoin future, and weak mentally and psychologically in Bitcoin market. With me from now, even since several years ago, I strongly believe in Bitcoin and will hold my bitcoin very carefully and determinantly.
This just reminded me another similar topic like this I commented, where blackhatcoiner said Bitcoin has died 477th times with a distinctive funeral. How about attending the next funeral at the 478th time?
It's death with people who consider Bitcoin as weak and useless, deserved to die but with the other people it's untrue. I believe that with time and Bitcoin adoption growth globally, the number of people who believe in bullish future of Bitcoin has increased considerably and dominates the number of people who actually believe Bitcoin is useless and will die.

This just reminded me another similar topic like this I commented, where blackhatcoiner said Bitcoin has died 477th times with a distinctive funeral. How about attending the next funeral at the 478th time?
Truth be told, Bitcoin suffered lots of criticism and bounced back to disgrace those who criticize it's growth, it got to the point that Bitcoin built trust with those who believed in it.
That no matter how down it got in it's price, the strength to bounce back will still arrive no matter the time it takes.

Jay-Z refused to give his niece a five thousand dollars he asked for, he answer was to remove his niece's mind from his money so he could think of ways to create his own personal wealth. From my observation, if you give to a relative once, he come asks for more again and again untill it becomes a repeatitive habit. Showering such favors oftentimes destroy the receivers strength to hustle.
And so saying "NO" is a good thing to stay wealthy and to relieve others to finding their own wealth too.

Or maybe if we stop listening to them and giving them the attention the crave they will stop go proclaim Bitcoin dead, I think when they do it they do it for two reasons to cause panic sell and actually see Bitcoin die or enjoy that attention that comes from it, it is obvious the former hasn't been the case so they actually bask in the fulfillment of the later.
It's about time to let them systematically get bored of such nuisance by not giving them attention.
Exactly! I think that's one of their tactics so that people will panic and sell their holdings, especially those who are new to investing in Bitcoin. This "bitcoin is dead" issue has been circulating every year, and even when Bitcoin's value falls, the majority don't panic and sell their Bitcoin. Instead, they have more trust that the value will bounce back 2x higher than its previous value over the year. If we look back, the value of BTC today is way more than its value back in 2016. Bitcoin has come too far beyond what other people expected and forecasted and that's a good news especially for all pioneers in crypto.

Exactly, folks kept mistaken discipline for greed . Sometimes you should know how to say No! , if you are trying to fill a cup and you kept given out from the cup without having a steady flow , your cup will definitely run dry and those that kept asking from you and you also won’t have any water . Is like a scenario whereby a hero is protecting civilians handling threat daily a time will come when they hero will break down if he or she don’t have enough rest , and when that happens many will suffer for it more than they will if he had rested. So build yourself first before trying to carry others , and help accordance to your capacity.
To me wealth is more of value . Not just money alone , because money still part of value . Inorder to build wealth you have to first build your mindset first to match that of the wealth you want to build , that’s why many has the money but they kept having nothing to show for it because they can’t manage that , they have .

You are definitely right, there is a big difference between greed and financial management, for one to be successful or achieve wealth you just need to know how to manage your resources, this has nothing to do with being greedy. Greed is simply doing everything possible to have more even when you know that what you have in your possession is enough. As a matter of fact applying greed might end up ruining you financially and an example to explain this would be trading or investment, if you are running an investment and at some point you know fully well that you achieved your target then you get greedy, this clouds your judgement and at that point you would be willing to go the extra mile just to make more money but in the process of doing that you might just be exposing yourself to losses. I also don't agree with his explanation on this about greed.

I believe in the long run, Bitcoin may be used for all online transactions, but I don't believe so for the next few years. It needs something on top of it since the base layer does only about 7 transactions per second. Lightning seems like the obvious solution, but in my experience the problem of liquidity and routing still makes it unpleasant for daily users and @BlackHatCoiner has a point there. I like the idea of Ark but I'm not sure it can scale at this point.
Volatility is another problem. Only a few users would want to spend money that can go up/down by 5-10% in a single week, so most of the day-to-day crypto transactions currently utilise stablecoins. Bitcoin will likely keep growing in importance as a store of value and settlement layer and potentially as a payment mechanism as well.
I think volatility is bigger issue than every other because today people are still using Bitcoin for online transactions, I have lost count about how many times I have used Bitcoin for online transactions in the past, the waiting game is what people can get used with since it's online payment, there is no reason to rush but volatility? That's never going to get solved.
Which leads me to this final conclusion that Bitcoin won't take over completely like it's the only thing left, the option will just always be there but many others will be side by side on the list, it's left for people to go with anyone they are convenient with.

The interesting part isn't the buyback, it's why they upsized it. They doubled the long-end operations last month after 30-year yields hit their highest level since 2007. When the issuer has to step in and buy back its own 30-year paper because buyers are getting picky, that says something about appetite for fiat IOUs.
This is the part that interests me the most too. The size of the buyback itself isn’t as much important as to what really prompted treasury to actually increase the operation. If the demand for long term Treasuries is actually becoming weaker, then the government would have to a lot more to keep that aspect of the market functioning. And even though this may actually not affect Bitcoin in any way, but it does raise some questions about how investors would view traditional stores of value if the pressure persists.

I like the saying that "whenever someone declares Bitcoin dead, buy it". This sentence has a deep meaning that if I analyze it, I might have to type for hours. Whenever Bitcoin is declared dead, think of it as an opportunity to buy more at a lower price and you take the opportunity to buy the dip. Buying at the lowest level of each cycle is the goal of most investors, consider that these speculators are helping you buy the dip. They deserve praise for this benefit.

Bitcoin can already do this. The point is not to use everything on chain because that is not good, many payments are small and not important. They don't need to be permanently stored and replicated on many thousands of computers. Instead Bitcoin's Lightning Network already provides more capacity than is needed to handle all the transactions of the world. There isn't a practical limit that we have hit yet, we can see what happens when it has more users. If it is going to be used this way is another topic, for that I am not so confident because many do not value the decentralization that much as we do.
Lightning cannot reach mass adoption. The architecture is just not allowing convenient use, because of liquidity and connection issues.
Bitcoin can power all online transactions theoretically using Ark, but probably requires covenants to be included in a future softfork. Ark is already working without covenants though, although it's debatable if that alone can power all online transactions.
I have read things like this many times but I have never had a single issue for small payments, which is what lightning is made for. I never had connection issues or liquidity issues. Did you personally have some issues? When was that? What wallet did you use?

We needed to sell Bitcoin for fiat currency, and Bitcoin network fees were incredibly high (due to the incredible popularity of runes and ordinals). I remember paying 40 percent in fees for a single transaction. It was terrifying!
Bitcoin network fees are low now, but I wouldn't want to face such a critical situation in the future.
As far as I understand, Lightning Network fees are low. However, if I want to save on fees in the future, I need to transfer satoshis to the Lightning network in advance and open a channel. But as far as I understand, a software glitch could lead to the unexpected closure of the channel. Furthermore, as far as I understand - correct me if I'm wrong - all Lightning Bitcoin wallets are hot wallets. Therefore, storing Bitcoin in them for long periods of time is less secure than storing it in mainstream cold wallets.
Furthermore, in my opinion, second-layer solutions will always be less secure than first-layer solutions. The number of points of vulnerability increases in any case... The recent Liquid incident confirms this. Although, of course, Lightning and Liquid have different security architectures. 🧑💻
I think your point about the trade-off between scalability and security is fair. I also agree that if Bitcoin is going to be used for much more everyday activity, we need to be careful about pushing users toward solutions that introduce additional complexity.
To be transparent, I haven't personally used Lightning enough to claim that I've experienced liquidity or connection problems myself. My concern is more about whether those issues become significant when millions of ordinary users start using it, rather than whether it works for today's smaller user base.
Regarding the channel issue, I don't think users necessarily need to manage channels manually anymore with many modern Lightning wallets, but that doesn't mean the underlying liquidity and channel-management requirements disappear. They are still part of the system somewhere.
And I wouldn't necessarily say that every second-layer solution is automatically less secure than the base layer. The security model is different, and it depends heavily on how the particular system is designed.

I think it ends up being a mix, and most users won't even know which layer they're on, the wallet will just pick. Ark is interesting, but it doesn't make the liquidity problem disappear, it moves it to the ASP, which has to lock up a lot of capital. And users still have to come online before their VTXOs expire, so it isn't fully "set and forget" either.
Honestly the bigger blocker for me is still merchants and volatility.
Yeah, The wallet abstracting away the underlying layer is probably the most realistic path. Most people aren't going to care whether a payment went through Lightning, Ark, or something else as long as it is fast, cheap, and reliable.
And you're right about Ark not magically eliminating liquidity requirements. Moving that responsibility to the ASP can make the user experience simpler, but the capital still has to come from somewhere. The VTXO expiry requirement is another practical detail that could easily be overlooked when talking about Ark at a high level.
I also agree that merchant adoption and volatility may be bigger obstacles than the raw transaction capacity. Even if the infrastructure works perfectly, merchants still have to be willing to accept Bitcoin and deal with the price risk. Stable coins may have an advantage there because merchants can accept digital payments without taking the same BTC price exposure.
So maybe the interesting question isn't whether Bitcoin itself handles every payment, but whether Bitcoin can remain the underlying settlement layer while different payment layers and assets handle the different use cases.

Or maybe if we stop listening to them and giving them the attention the crave they will stop go proclaim Bitcoin dead, I think when they do it they do it for two reasons to cause panic sell and actually see Bitcoin die or enjoy that attention that comes from it, it is obvious the former hasn't been the case so they actually bask in the fulfillment of the later.
It's about time to let them systematically get bored of such nuisance by not giving them attention.

on the "is it a Bitcoin hack" debate happening in this thread (BlackHatCoiner v. pooya87), i think the cleanest way to frame it is consensus-layer v. application-layer security. the protocol itself (ECDSA, the consensus rules, double-spend prevention) has never been broken, thats the actual "Bitcoin sec" everyone means when they say bitcoin is secure. Coldcard, Liquid, exchanges, all of that lives one layer up, its how people interact with and custody bitcoin, not bitcoin itself
i actually posted about the Coldcard entropy bug on mine local board recently, and its the same pattern as Liquid here: rock solid base layer, vulnerable application layer sitting on top of it. the "setback for institutional adoption" framing in the OP makes more sense once you separate those two, institutions arent losing faith in bitcoin the asset/protocol, theyre (rightfully) getting more careful about which custody/infra providers they trust

I agree that Lightning’s liquidity and channel-management requirements are a real hurdle, especially if we’re talking about ordinary users who shouldn’t have to think about routing, inbound liquidity, or keeping channels healthy.
What I find interesting about Ark is that it changes the design trade-off rather than simply trying to push Lightning further. If it can provide a smoother experience while still ultimately settling on Bitcoin, that could make Bitcoin much more practical for everyday payments.
That said, I’m still curious about the scalability side. Handling a large share of global online commerce isn’t just about whether transactions can technically be processed. it’s also about liquidity, privacy, UX, custody, and how easily someone can receive and spend without understanding the underlying machinery.
So I think the bigger question is whether Bitcoin’s future payment layer will look like Lightning, Ark, or some combination of several approaches. The base layer probably doesn’t need to handle every coffee purchase directly if the layers above it can make Bitcoin feel like a normal payment network.

Bitcoin can already do this. The point is not to use everything on chain because that is not good, many payments are small and not important. They don't need to be permanently stored and replicated on many thousands of computers. Instead Bitcoin's Lightning Network already provides more capacity than is needed to handle all the transactions of the world. There isn't a practical limit that we have hit yet, we can see what happens when it has more users. If it is going to be used this way is another topic, for that I am not so confident because many do not value the decentralization that much as we do.
Lightning cannot reach mass adoption. The architecture is just not allowing convenient use, because of liquidity and connection issues.
Bitcoin can power all online transactions theoretically using Ark, but probably requires covenants to be included in a future softfork. Ark is already working without covenants though, although it's debatable if that alone can power all online transactions.
I have read things like this many times but I have never had a single issue for small payments, which is what lightning is made for. I never had connection issues or liquidity issues. Did you personally have some issues? When was that? What wallet did you use?
I'm confident that Bitcoin won't power all online transactions in the near or even distant future. 🙋
That is not the question here, the question is about technological capability of doing all of that.

Makes sense. When you hold your card on an NFC device, whether you're paying 1 EUR or 1000 EUR, the movement and the act are exactly the same. But when you pay 1 EUR and 1000 EUR in cash, there's massive psychological difference.
A theory that is not yet researched by MIT: When you pay in BTC it's both worse than cash and credit card!
Because of modern technology, many have underestimated the value of little money, and because technology has made things easier and faster for everyone who adopts it, it has also changed our ways of thinking in many ways, and it has also made us not think much when spending a small amount of money on most things like Netflix, YouTube Premium, PlayStation Plus, Fitness apps, iCloud+, and so on.
But funny enough, there are still some individuals who prefer to spend cash rather than use digital payments, because they feel that using cash helps them save up their digital currency, and at the same time, such people hardly subscribe to premium services. So just as most people feel when spending cash, some feel the same way whenever they spend money directly from their account.

It is better for it to be boring than to be doing other things with your bitcoin. Some people will continue to check the price of their bitcoin and later they are afraid and they sold it also because of what you have said. Some people will hold their coins on exchanges and use it to trade because they want fast money. Holding bitcoin is boring but when the price start to increase, it is not boring at all, it is exciting.
Holding might seem boring but let's not forget it comes with minimal risk. If we consider trading or investing elsewhere, risk would eventually increase. Holding has always been a safer option for me even if it gives minimum profits. Yes, I can earn way better if I prefer trading F&O or just the regular spot markets but I can't deny the fact that majority of my positions would wind up in loss and I would need better strategies to recover that loss and earn back some profit.
Holding is boring for those who prefer taking risks. For these people, trading is the best option because they can take risk their which would eventually pay off with huge loads of profits. Until and unless we are ready for that risk, holding is the best option we've got.

I believe in the long run, Bitcoin may be used for all online transactions, but I don't believe so for the next few years. It needs something on top of it since the base layer does only about 7 transactions per second. Lightning seems like the obvious solution, but in my experience the problem of liquidity and routing still makes it unpleasant for daily users and @BlackHatCoiner has a point there. I like the idea of Ark but I'm not sure it can scale at this point.
Volatility is another problem. Only a few users would want to spend money that can go up/down by 5-10% in a single week, so most of the day-to-day crypto transactions currently utilise stablecoins. Bitcoin will likely keep growing in importance as a store of value and settlement layer and potentially as a payment mechanism as well.

Devs write code, they don't control what people run. Core has no auto-update, so if they pushed something shady nobody would be forced to install it.
The blocksize war is the best example where big companies and miners backed SegWit2x (New York Agreement), and it still died because the economic majority refused to go along. Decentralized doesn't mean nobody has a louder voice, it means nobody can force the rules on you.
There are many failed Bitcoin forks, not only Segwit2x.
People are free to make forks from Bitcoin but their forks will fail and die.
